Carraig Donn Launches Sustainability Initiative

Carrier Bag Charge

Introduced from November 10th 

Carraig Donn will introduce a standard charge of 20c per carrier bag, effective from November 10th 2025. This initiative is part of the company’s ongoing efforts to reduce environmental impact and encourage more sustainable shopping habits. The charge will apply to all paper bags, regardless of size (small, medium, or large). 

This initiative aims to encourage customers to reuse bags and reduce their reliance on single-use paper bags, which, although recyclable, still have a significant environmental footprint due to the resources required for their production and distribution. 

“We are proud to take this step in line with our ongoing commitment to sustainability,” said a spokesperson for Carraig Donn. “While paper bags are often seen as a greener alternative, they are still single-use for many shoppers. By introducing a small charge, we hope to inspire more customers to bring their own reusable bags and join us in reducing unnecessary waste.”  

The move aligns with national and global efforts to reduce single-use packaging and reflects growing consumer awareness around environmental issues. 

To kick-start the initiative, Carraig Donn is offering a free tote for a limited time with purchases of €60 or more. This offer will also come into effect from October 30th and will run while stocks last. Customers are encouraged to bring their own reusable shopping bags when visiting any of Carraig Donn’s stores nationwide.
