Our “Inspired By Her” series shines a spotlight on the women who inspire us - from all backgrounds and walks of life. In this edition, we meet Alice Hodges AKA, the Calf Girl, who is forging a path in the agricultural sector, and delighting her social followers with engaging and unique content along the way!
"My proudest moment to date would have to be deciding to move to New Zealand on my own for 12 months to work on a 1,500 cow dairy farm. On the 27-hour flight over I was terrified, worried I'd made the wrong decision, that I wasn't going to be good enough, that I wasn't going to make friends, and was going to spend the next year regretting my decision. How wrong could I have been. I ended up having the best year of my life, learned so much and made friendships that will last a lifetime, and I got to travel around one of the most beautiful countries in the world!"
"If I could give 18-year-old Alice any advice it would be this: do NOT give up on your dream. Entering the farming sector without any family connections was always going to be tough, and at times you are going to give up on your dream of someday having your own farm, but persist, because every day is a step closer to finally achieving that dream. We're not there yet, but we're a hell of a lot closer than we were yesterday and the day before that. Your hard work and determination will pay off, and when others question you, your capabilities, your achievements, use it to fuel yourself and someday soon you'll be exactly where you've always wanted to be."
